The wildcard character * may be used as part of the search string when searching for publications by Title, Author, Division, or Publication Number, as shown in the following examples:

If you want to search for Publications with Authors with the last name John, Johnson, or Johnston, you would type John* in the search box.
These Authors would be located:
John, Johnson, or Johnston.
The search phrase John* will also return any Titles that begin with John, such as: "Johnson Grass And Other Weeds"
or
"Johnson County Profile 2002".
If you want to locate Publications by an Author with the first name of John, you would type *John or *john into the search box.
These Authors would be found:
Boyd, John; Clark, John; or Jennings, John
If you enter *John*, *john* or john as a search phrase, the search will find all the Publications that contain john as part of the Title or as part of an Author's name.
Some examples of what you might expect to be displayed are:

"Alfalfa Site Selection" (FSA2000) by Jennings, John, Animal Science Division;
or
"County Profile Johnson County 2002" (CP36) by Miller, Wayne, Community Development Division.
If you know that a certain Publication contains a particular phrase, you may type the phrase into the search box.
Suppose that you wish to search for publications that contain the phrase control of as part of the Title.
Type the phrase into the search box, and select the Go! Button.
You might see these publications listed:
"Biology And Control Of Spiders, Scorpions, Centipedes And Millipedes" (FSA7018) by Johnson, Donald, Pest Management Division;
or
"Control Of Insects In Corn" (FSA7021) by Studebaker, Glenn, Pest Management Division

Some other examples of search strings follow:

To search for all Publication Numbers that begin with 4H or Publication Titles that begin with 4H, you would type 4H* in the Search Box.
The results of this search would returns documents similar to:
"Raising Broilers And Turkeys For Competition" (4HFSO416) by Watkins, Susan, Poultry Division.
or
"4H Beekeeping Project" (M-302) by Johnson, Donald, Pest Management Division.
To find all Publication with 4H in the Title, or all documents in the 4H Division, you would type 4H or *4H*. "4H Adult Volunteer Application For M" (CES-643) by Jones, Diane in the 4H Division;
If the search string is *fruits, you might find Publications like "Drying Fruits" or "Water Bath Canning of Fruits", etc.
If you use *fish* or fish as a search string, you might find: "Crawfish Production In Arkansas";
"Silverfish And Firebrats";
or
"Cage Culture Handling & Feeding" from the Fish Division.
If you enter cat or *cat* as the search string, then some examples of the publications that will be returned are: "Cats 1 Purr-Fect Pals!" (BU-6146) by the 4H Division;
or
"4H Team Helmet Unit 1 Bike Safety" (A-001) by Empire Publications, Animal Science Division.
